The A-Z of Google Instant

September 09, 2010

Google Instant promises a faster user experience and a change in how we search for information. Given that each letter a user types might alter the search results, I thought it might be interesting to see what comes up for each letter of the alphabet. Without further ado, here’s the A-Z of Google Instant as of September 9, 2010, searched from Lancaster, PA.

  • A: Amazon
  • B: Best Buy
  • C: Craigslist
  • D: Dictionary.com
  • E: Ebay
  • F: Facebook
  • G: Gmail
  • H: Hotmail
  • I: IKEA
  • J: John Beaston*
  • K: Kohl’s
  • L: Lowe’s
  • M: MapQuest
  • N: NetFlix
  • O: Ocean City, Maryland*
  • P: PSECU Credit Union*
  • Q: QVC
  • R: RE/MAX Realty
  • S: Sears
  • T: Target
  • U: USPS
  • V: Verizon
  • W: Weather*
  • X: Xbox
  • Y: Yahoo!
  • Z: USPS – Zip Code Lookup *

*Appears to be a local result

Most of these were pretty expected, although I am intrigued by some of the results. I also wonder what part of the algorithm determines a local result appearing over a national result for any given letter. It will be interesting to see how these change over time.
